This is actually an old French heirloom lettuce that was used for winter growing for hundreds of years. 50 heirloom seeds. In my geothermal greenhouse trial of lettuce varieties, this lettuce came in second place, sprouting from seed in the first week of January -- you read that right -- during a very snowy, bitter cold week when the high temperature in the greenhouse was 34 degrees and the low was 28 degrees. (There is no artificial heat or electricity in my geothermal greenhouse). This lettuce does well outside in cold frames during the winter (down to minus-seven below zero in my garden), and also grows very well outside in the spring and fall. Beautiful, round green loose leaf heads. This is a dwarf size, and is also cut-and-come-again, meaning you can cut it at ground level and it will grow back several times. Annual. Free shipping on orders over $34.
